Il Sempervivum ciliosum è una pianta succulenta perenne appartenente alla famiglia delle Crassulaceae, originaria delle regioni montuose dell’Europa centrale e meridionale. Forma rosette compatte e dense, costituite da foglie carnose, triangolari e appuntite, leggermente ciliate lungo i margini, che conferiscono alla pianta un aspetto vellutato. Le rosette possono essere verdi, ma sotto forte insolazione assumono sfumature rosso-brune, molto decorative. In estate produce steli fiorali alti che portano numerosi piccoli fiori a stella di colore rosa o rosa-violaceo, molto apprezzati in giardini rocciosi e bordure. È estremamente rustica, resistente al gelo e alla siccità, e si adatta facilmente a terreni poveri, ghiaiosi e ben drenati, rendendola ideale per giardini rocciosi, tetti verdi o composizioni in vaso.
